Apple Acres Fall 2007 Field Trip

The cost for the field trip is $5.75 per person, both child and adult, including teachers. Adults attending more than one session only pay for the first session. The usual course of the field trip is listed below. Changes can be made to suit the attendees with special needs. Check with Sam prior to your field trip. Please note that we charge a minimum of $63 if your group is very small. 

1. A tractor drawn, hay filled, wagon ride.
2. Each attendee gets to pick an apple from a tree. One apple only please.
3. A live demonstration of the apple peeler and apple slicer.
4. A step-in visit to the cold storage room.
5. Explanation of the cider press and apple washing area. We will not be making cider while your group is on tour.
6. Each attendee will receive a cup of apple cider and a homemade donut. Our Apple Acres cider has a warning label mandated by law. “ Warning: This product has not been pasteurized and therefore may contain harmful bacteria that may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems.”
7. The group will receive apples for their classroom follow-up and a 10” pumpkin. One pumpkin per class to share.
8. Apple Acres has a marked nature walk for those groups that chose to use it. There are several stopping places with informational signs and a teacher’s handbook is provided. The walk will take approx. 15 min. and is generally over level ground, however, the footpath is not graded and there are sticks and other small obstacles that make the walk unsuitable for those with walking handicaps.
9. Rain dates - we expect all groups to make reasonable efforts in light rain or mist.
   Boots and raincoats are not unusual for trips. The final decision is always that of
   the groups. Apple Acres will try to schedule a rain date at the
   time of cancellation.
